A floating, underwater hotel, where you sleep in underwater

One underwater chamber on a Swedish lake near Stockholm. The Utter Inn is the brainchild of Mikael Genberg, a local artist and sculptor who has chosen to focus on “making art for the public”. One hotel room is located 3m below the surface of Lake Mälaren in Västerås, Sweden and contains only twin beds and a table.

It opened in June 2000 on a very cold, rainy day. Other than that it has been a great success. Not only did all the untested solutions work, it attracted a lot of people.

The Utter Inn awakens the most common dreams in Sweden; having a small red Swedish house with white fabrics on your island. In addition you can spend your night three feet under water with panoramic windows on all sides.

This unique living environment includes the concept of risk-taking and entertainment that often enhances sensory input. One should not forget the psychological word for “elevated transfer”. Quotes are probably about a person's tendency to turn fear into love. You don’t want to feel scared so the brain turns emotions into something very fun. You feel more alive. With this planned concept, controlled fear can be very important.

The Utter Inn delegates arrive at the port of Västerås and are taken 1 km to the hotel by the Lake Malaren and are given a steam boat, instructions and are left alone.

If they choose the deluxe type they will be visited later for their dinner.

Visitors have the opportunity to use a sterile boat to visit the nearest uninhabited island. Some are brave enough to swim (the UHOTW team is terrified!), Or to bask in the hot sun, or to watch the fish (both up and down).

There is a remarkable feeling of sleep while the fish are around you and watching you carefully. You're in an aquarium - so the fish can be human observers.

Often boats come closer to see the brave citizens. Swedish boat people are always polite and don't take more than twice around your room !!!
