Attendees at the Basic Income Open Forum (BIOF) had a list of more than 60 questions which were ultimately considered. Ideas, opinions, and questions were shared to many of the speakers on various topics, such as:

What if tax was abolished?

What if the country paid no taxes?

Why shouldn’t there be a guaranteed basic income?

What does a basic income benefit those in poverty?

In 2017, more than 700 people participated in the event.

Note: More detailed information is available on the Basic Income Coalition of Ontario website, as well as from advocates like John C. Williams, who is the Chairman of the Basic Income Canada Network (BICAN). The Basic Income Canada Network (BICAN) is a grassroots organization formed in 1999. The BICN has a focus on providing information on basic income policies and bringing people together to find ways to make basic income a reality in Canada.

The Basic Income Canada Network is an informal network of individuals and organizations committed to achieving a basic income in Canada. It advocates for such a system based on a respect for the dignity of all Canadians.

Every year, hundreds of architects, designers, artists, and other professionals gather in Toronto to express their ideas on the future of design. On December 1, 2016, nearly 200 of them gathered in Toronto to talk about a new idea. That idea is the Basic Income. The Basic Income is a monthly payment to cover the basic needs of all Canadians. It will remove the poverty trap, and help get more people out of poverty. While discussing Basic Income, the speaker expressed their concern about basic security and even called it a public safety issue. There was no shortage of opinions in the discussion. Many people shared their ideas and opinions, and these are just a few of them. You can listen to the speech in its entirety here: So why do we need a basic income? We encourage you to visit the Basic Income Ontario website and learn more. Read more of the discussion on Basic Income Ontario here: Learn how great it was here.
